Question- My husband applied for a personal loan yesterday and its saying he needs a cosigner. We just got a loan last year paid it on time everymonth, and even paid it off 4 mo early. They are saying he has a delinquent account they say its a cellphone bill which is from 2007. we haven’t gotten a bill and we havent seen this on the credit report we get every three months, so it has to be new. We have worked very hard to get our credit great trying to build it and this really upsets us. what should we do next?!
Hi kimbeec
You need to check the 3 credit bureaus: Equifax, Transunion and Experian. The collection is probably being reported by a different bureau than the one you are getting reports from. You can get an annual free credit report from the 3 bureaus at annualcreditreport.com (this is the official site).
You can also request reports directly from each credit bureau:
or to get a Fico score:
First thing you need to do is find out who is reporting that collection, then negotiate to have that collection deleted from your report.
Co-signing an apartment lease is a serious responsibility. A cosigner is legally just as responsible for the rent and other expenses as the primary renter, even though he or she has no legal tie to the property. For more details, you can go for https://www.nyrentownsell.com/blog/co-signer-for-apartment-lease/ now. Never agree to cosign unless you are prepared to pay the full rent if the main tenant fails to do so.
